“I got my dream job as Chief Advancement Officer for an organization that advances racial justice and equity in the outdoor and environmental movement. Given my love for nature and the outdoors, as well as my interest in both social justice and fundraising, it’s perfect.”

“In coaching, I learned so much about myself and what I wanted and it was exactly what I needed. I am on the way to starting my new career path and couldn’t be more excited. And I definitely couldn’t have done it without Adrian!”

“I hit a plateau. My backup plan failed, and I had no idea what to do. As my last hope, I started sessions with Adrian. Adrian, I truly appreciate everything you’ve done. I’m so thankful that I met you and I had the opportunity to work with you.”

Career coaching might just be the best investment you make in your entire life if you consider the enormous financial and emotional benefit of finding the right career for you. It not only has the potential to make you happier and more fulfilled on a personal level but can also contribute to greater success and financial abundance in the short and long term.
Why?
When you are passionate about your work, you are more likely to excel and want to put in the extra effort needed to advance in your career. This can lead to higher quality work, having a bigger positive impact, being celebrated for your contributions, rewarded with promotions, raises, awards, leadership opportunities, and the power to customize your work to fit your lifestyle.
You’re less likely to experience burnout and more likely to continue working in your field thereby becoming a recognized expert with high earning potential and the ability to make a big difference in your field. This all brings a deep sense of purpose and satisfaction in addition to the traditional markers of success.
But this type of meaningful success requires that your career fits who you are. If your career doesn’t use your gifts and passions, you’ll be wasting some of your potential.
Our coaching method guides you through a deep process of discovering your gifts, passions, and needs, and then translating those core parts of you into the career path that will make the most of your innate potential. The result is a career you are naturally good at and passionate about, and from there the sky’s the limit.
Given all of those benefits, working with a career coach might just be the single greatest investment you can make in your career. Especially given that our coaching program costs just over $1000 for everything included!
Like our former client Ben said, “Wow, what can I say? After a few unfulfilled years in corporate sales, I was at the end of my rope with what to do next. I came to the conclusion that if Adrian’s program worked, it would be the best money I ever spent and that it was! Now I run my own real estate company. I love calling the shots. It’s a world of difference just in terms of my overall enjoyment.”
While a career coach and a mentor are both highly recommended to help you build a successful and fulfilling career, there are a few key differences that may influence when you seek out their specific guidance.
The primary difference between a career coach and a mentor is that mentoring usually takes the form of an informal conversation based on the mentor’s personal experience whereas career coaching follows a more structured process of guiding a client through coaching activities, psychological tools, and career assessments to clarify the client’s career goals and accomplish them successfully. Career coaches typically provide more structured and objective guidance. Mentors typically provide more informal advice based on their own professional experience.
Should you get a career coach or a mentor?
It depends where you’re at. If you’re trying to choose the right career or make a career change, a career coach is likely to be most helpful because they can guide you through a structured process to discover your strengths and passions and identify the careers that best fit you.
Our career coaching team has access to career planning methodologies, assessments, tools, and techniques to identify the best career options and a trained ear to listen to what you truly want. When you work with one of our career coaches or join our online career coaching program, you also get the benefit of someone to hold you accountable and help you work through the inevitable obstacles that arise as you move forward. All of our career coaches and programs are available virtually to you in Washington DC.
Trying to find a mentor might be the better bet if you’re clear about what you want to do next and you need industry specific knowledge to get you there. But it isn’t easy to find a mentor who has the time and willingness to invest in you (and hold you accountable for the actions you want to take). If you can’t find a mentor then a career coach can still be extremely effective in helping you get to the next level in your current career.
If you’re curious to hear more specifics about how a career coach would help you build a more successful and fulfilling career, we’d love to hear from you. Please sign up for a free consultation to learn more.
Yes and no:) There are some distinct differences between a career coach and a life coach, as well as plenty of overlap.
A life coach typically has a broader, more holistic focus that addresses many aspects of your personal life which could also include career. A career coach typically has a more specific focus on helping you make positive changes in your career. But as we all know, your career affects your life so a good career coach must help you choose a career path that fits your lifestyle and personal goals.
At A Path That Fits, we offer both career coaching and life coaching to clients in Washington DC. All of our career coaches and life coaches will support you in identifying and accomplishing your specific goals while also raising questions to ensure your life and career are in sync.
