Land Acknowledgement
Recognition of our Land & People.
Honoring Indigenous Lands and Communities
We, A Path That Fits, acknowledge that we are based in Yelamu and Huchiun, the unceded ancestral lands of the Ramaytush Ohlone and the Chochenyo Ohlone, in what are now known as San Francisco and Berkeley. We wish to pay our respects to the Ancestors, Elders, and Relatives of the Ohlone Community who have stewarded this land throughout the generations. We recognize that we benefit from living and working in their homeland, and we affirm their sovereign rights as first peoples.
We contribute to The Association of Ramaytush Ohlone to support their work to represent the interests of the original peoples of the San Francisco Peninsula and care for Mother Earth and for the people who reside in their ancestral homeland.
We contribute to the Shuumi Land Tax to support Sogorea Te’s work of rematriation, returning Indigenous land to Indigenous people so current and future generations of Indigenous people can thrive in the Bay Area.
We make this land acknowledgment to:
- Show our respect for native communities and honor their lives and cultures.
- Raise awareness of the true history of this place and the damage colonialism has done and continues to do to this country and to the world.
- Remind ourselves of the privilege we have and the responsibility we feel to act in alignment with these truths toward decolonization, reconciliation, and a more equitable and just future for all.
- Invite others to learn about the history and people of the land they are standing, and to build more respectful and caring relationships with all of life.
As career and life coaches, our purpose is to help people share their gifts and live their best lives. We make this land acknowledgment to recognize that indigenous people here in the San Francisco Bay Area and throughout the world have had their land stolen, cultures decimated, and continue to endure systemic oppression. White settlers have done everything but help the original and rightful inhabitants of this land to live their best lives. By acknowledging this, we hope to raise awareness that leads to reconciliation and a future in which all people are supported in living their best life.
